Wallula Power Project
General Description of the Project:
Newport Northwest, LLC proposed to construct and operate a natural gas combined cycle electrical generating facility of approximately 1300 MW at Wallula, Washington, on the east side of SR 12, north of the Boise Cascade mill, in Walla Walla County. The 183 acre site was zoned Heavy Industrial and was in agricultural use. The project was designed to connect with the main PGT natural gas pipeline and the Lower Monumental - McNary BPA 500 KV line, both located approximately 5 miles to the east. The land located between the planned project and the connecting gas and electrical transmission lines was all agricultural and the connecting lines did not cross any rivers or wetlands. The site had an industrial water right from a deep well outside hydraulic continuity with the Columbia River which would have been used for the project.
This project was canceled. Construction was never started.
