Our public meeting ground rules

To help all participants to have a productive and safe public meeting, we ask that you honor a few ground rules.

We are committed to providing a full, fair, and safe opportunity for all voices to be heard in a respectful atmosphere. However, if there are disruptions that interfere with the public’s opportunity to participate or that pose a safety risk, we may need to close a meeting to the public.

If everyone can follow some basic ground rules it will assist with an orderly and productive meeting.

To ensure order and safety at in-person meetings

  • Treat every speaker respectfully treated. We will not tolerate any kind of intimidation.
  • No clapping, cheering, or jeering during the meeting. Also, do not speak out of turn or talk loudly either in support or in opposition to the issue being discussed.

When joining an online, virtual meeting

  • Mute your microphone unless you are called on to speak. (If you don’t have a mute button, press *6 to mute/unmute.)
  • Please be respectful to all participants within the chat.

We will ask those who do not follow these ground rules or who create an unsafe or intimidating environment to leave the meeting, or we may remove the individual from a virtual meeting.
