Wind

Wind energy facilities use the natural force of the wind as a clean power source. Learn more about wind energy and how we regulate it.

How wind energy works

Wind energy takes the power of the wind to generate electricity. The process involves using the wind’s motion to spin a turbine, a tall structure with large blades and a connected generator. It doesn’t create emissions, making wind energy a sustainable source of renewable power.

Wind farms are collections of multiple wind turbines. These facilities are in areas with strong and consistent winds, such as plains, coasts, or offshore locations.

How we oversee wind energy

Wind energy facilities don’t need our approval. However, these facilities may choose to come to us for certification through our siting process.
