Solar

Solar power doesn’t produce emissions and is an efficient energy source for industries and individuals alike. Learn more about solar energy and how we regulate it.

How solar energy works

Solar energy comes from the Sun, and solar panels collect it using photovoltaic (PV) cells. When sunlight hits solar panels, these PV cells generate electricity. As a power source, solar energy is considered a clean alternative to fossil fuels.

Also known as solar farms or solar power plants, solar facilities have many solar panels to produce large amounts of power. These facilities can be on land or water.

How we oversee solar energy

Solar energy facilities don’t need our approval. However, these facilities may choose to come to us for certification through our siting process.
