Kittitas Valley Wind Power Project - environmental impact

Our Council adopted and issued the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Kittitas Valley Wind Power Project on February 1, 2007, after an extensive four-year public process guided by the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA).

The EIS began with the issuance of a Determination of Significance and Scoping Notice on February 14, 2003, the holding of a public comment meeting and opening of a public comment period in March, and the Council adoption of the Scoping Summary report in April.

Our Council released the Draft EIS in December 2003 and received public comments at a public meeting and in writing through January 2004. We prepared and our Council issued a Draft Supplemental EIS in August 2004, followed by a public hearing and receipt of oral and written comments through August and the first half of September. In response to concern about the adequacy of the notice, our Council reopened the comment period and held an additional public hearing in January 2005. On December 23, 2005, our Council issued an Addendum to the Draft EIS as a result of the applicant's decision to reduce the scope of the proposed project; and on February 1, 2007, our Council adopted the Final EIS for the project.
