Permits and compliance

If the governor approves your energy facility, you’ll need to cooperate with our oversight, permitting and site restoration requirements.

Steps in Permits and compliance

Required environmental permits for certain facilities
Depending on the type of energy facility, a certificate holder may need to follow federal, state, and local rules that limit the types and amounts of environmental discharge. We issue most environmental permits needed to ensure all facilities operate within these legal limits.
Our oversight of approved energy facilities
After the governor has signed a Site Certification Agreement (SCA), we continue to regulate and oversee an energy facility to ensure it complies with state laws and rules.
Restoring the site after a facility stops working
In addition to planning a facility’s design and operation, the certificate holder needs to describe how they will restore the local environment after decommissioning it or canceling construction.
